    History

    The District and Sessions Court, Papum Pare is located at its headquarter at Yupia. It is presided over by a district and sessions judge which looks over the civil and criminal matters at a district level. It is about 22 Km away from the State’s Capital, Itanagar. Papum Pare district was created in the year 1992 by bifurcating Lower Subansiri District with its Headquarter at Yupia vide Govt. Notification No.GA(B)36/89 Dated 21st September, 1992. From the year 1992 to 2000, the temporary Headquarter of the District was at Itanagar. Later during the year 2000, the District Headquarter shifted from Itanagar to its permanent District Headquarter at Yupia after completion of office buildings and residential accommodations. The total population of the district including Capital Complex is 1,76,573 as per the population Census -2011.

    Papum Pare District is situated in the North Eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh. Its mainland extended between 26°55′ and 28°40′ North latitude and 92°40′ and 94°21′ East longitudes. The district is bounded by Kra Daadi district in the north, Lower Subansiri district in the east, East Kameng district in the west and state of Assam in the south. The district headquarter is located at Yupia. The name of the district is derived from the two major rivers called Papum and Pare. The district covers an area of 3462 sq kms approximately. The land is mostly mountainous with Himalayan ranges. The hill ranges approximately varies from 45 to 1200 mtrs above sea level. It is a land of lust green forest, deep river valleys and beautiful plateaus.

    The entire district is mountainous forming a part of the eastern Himalayas. The area comprises of a cross section of the foothill region adjoining the border of Assam, the lowed hills and the lofty mountains extending northwards. The natural vegetation comprises mainly tropical semi-evergreen and sub-tropical evergreen forests. At lower altitudes the vegetation consist of tall trees, shrubs, bamboo, wild banana, cane and various kinds of creepers and at higher altitudes it is mostly composed of ferns and rhododendrons. The Capital City of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar located at an altitude of about 1700 ft. above the sea level between 93° East Longitude and 27° North Latitude.

    The district has a Railway Station as Naharlagun Railway Station which is approx 4.5 Km and nearest Airport is Donyi Polo Airport located at Hollongi, Itanagar which is about 44 km and connected with State Capital with smooth road connectivity.
